Omega Delta Colony To Petition for Rechartering
|
Within the next several weeks (mid-February, 2007), the Undergraduate Members of the Omega Delta Colony will be submitting to Phi Gamma Delta International Headquarters in Lexington, Kentucky a Petition to Recharter the Omega Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta on the campus of Columbia University. Originally chartered on November 27, 1866, the Chapter ceased operations in 1999 and, after a five (5) year absence, has once again emerged as a dominant force among fraternities at Columbia.
The Petition will include detailed information on the Omega Delta Colony’s accomplishments in all four (4) points of the diamond; i.e., academics, recruitment, community service & campus involvement, and financial stability.
Following submission of the Petition, the Archons will review it in detail and, subject to their recommendation; International Headquarters will notify all FIJI Undergraduate and Graduate Chapters in good standing that Omega’s Petition is available for review. Practically speaking, the Petition will be made available on the Omega Website (www.columbiafiji.com) for inspection by any member of the Fraternity wishing to read it. Each undergraduate chapter will be eligible to cast three (3) votes and each graduate chapter one (1) vote in this process. It is anticipated that the balloting process will be completed prior to the end of the spring semester.
Under the assumption that the Delta Colony will be endorsed in its efforts to once again become a full-fledged chapter in Phi Gamma Delta, plans are now being made for the Rechartering Weekend activities and festivities later this fall. A tentative date of October 5th and 6th has been scheduled which will witness the installation of the Omega Chapter and the initiation of the Delta Colony Members into membership in Phi Gamma Delta. A banquet in Omega’s honor will be held Saturday evening, October 6th, at a location to be announced.
FIJI Brothers resident in and around the New York City are asked to reserve this fall weekend now on their calendars as this affair promises to be an exciting and an historic event! Further details will be posted on this website in the coming months.
